Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a difficult condition to have. It is actually a very common problem, and it affects millions of people worldwide.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome often causes its victims to miss important events in their lives. Here are a few things to keep in mind to make managing IBS easier:

1) Keep a Food Diary: Writing down everything that you eat can be very helpful. If you start to feel sick, simply refer to your records and it will be a lot easier to figure out what foods are contributing towards your illness.

2) Avoid Foods That Upset You: This may sound like common sense, but it needs to be said. Avoid foods that will upset you! I know it is hard not eating like everyone else does, but the bottom line is that if you don’t follow these guidelines, you are going to feel sick. And nobody wants that. I understand that it really is easier said than done, but if you eat foods that are going to upset you, you are going to make yourself sick.

3) Eat Your Food in Smaller Portions: Eating large meals can really upset your digestive system. I would like to suggest that you try eating 6 smaller meals instead of 3 larger ones, and see how you feel. Big meals often cause cramping and diarrhea. Also, try to chew your food slowly.

4) Limit Carbonated Beverages: Drinking a lot of carbonation can fill your body with a lot of gas, which leads to IBS trouble. Avoid and limit soda as much as you can, and especially remember to stay away from it when you already feel sick. Also, try to avoid chewing gum as this is effectively the same as you swallowing air, and not good for your body.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome is not fun to live with, but it is manageable. I hope you will keep this advice in mind. Here’s to better health for everyone!
